No future
noplacetohide has disbanded. Debut album Vergangenheit (1995) rereleased on Entartete Musik.
On October 16 2005 noplacetohide's second album Zukunft was unleashed on the world. noplacetohide played four final shows that week to celebrate the long awaited release of the album, but few knew that this would also be noplacetohide's last shows ever. Four months earlier the band had agreed to split up, sick and tired of dealing with amateurish underground labels. The band had simply had enough. Business bullshit had drained the creative force from the band, and the band had long since stagnated due to its lacking media outlet. A 16 year uphill battle had taken its toll. However, determined not to fade away, the band decided to play those final shows and document all recorded material from their 16 year long "carreer". This meant the band once again had to dig deep in their pockets, as well as getting involved with the Italian Mafia, to finance the release of two full albums on CD and LP.
noplacetohide's debut album Vergangenheit has been long sold out and out of print. Originally released in 1995, the album received rave reviews all over, but it
seemed that the metal labels of the world, still caught up in the black metal hysteria of the early nineties, were not yet ready for originality or individuality. Thrash metal was not trendy in the underground anymore. The self financed product met no interest from international labels or distributors. They simply did not know how to market a Norwegian band that hadn't jumped on the BM bandwagon, and consequently the band remained Norway's best kept secret, despite the critically acclaimed debut. The album only found its way to the most adventurous of metal fans.
To celebrate the ten years since the original release, the new version includes a full CD (titled "From the Remains") worth of extra material. The bonus CD includes all four demos the band made, as well as live version of unreleased songs, a remix by Martin Horntveth of Jaga Jazzist, and cover songs of Depeche Mode and Cloroform. That's 77 minutes of hard-to-find material that was for the most part originally released on cassettes and CDRs.
It is in other words high time the world gets to experience Vergangenheit. Now that people actually confess to liking thrash metal and progressive music again, the world seems better prepared for Vergangenheit than in 1995.
Post noplacetohide:
Anders Hangård has joined Nidingr. Nidingr released their debut album "Sorrow infinite and darkness" in 2005 and will start playing live this spring. Espen Hangård plays in the up and coming band Point Shirley and with the highly acclaimed noise metal project Killl (with members of JR Ewing, Jaga Jazzist and Single Unit). Both Killl and Point Shirley will have their debut releases out this year.

Zukunft press release
For immediate release
10/05/2005
noplacetohide unleashes second album Zukunft on Entartete Musik.
October 17 2005 sees the long awaited release of noplacetohide's second album, titled Zukunft. Zukunft is released on Norway's Entartete Musik label and distributed through Chewin' Pine Records/VME. Five years in the making, and another five years in exile, Zukunft picks up noplacetohide's fearless and shining style heard on their 1995 debut album Vergangenheit, and blows all preconceptions to bits. Written during the absolute creative low of the heavy metal genre's 35 year history, Zukunft focuses on the individual song as the fundament of the genre, and dares to explore different stylistic approaches and expressions. Thus Zukunft promotes versatile music that retains the original power inherent in the heavy metal genre while avoiding the pathetic christian duality, binary dynamics and tedious cliches of most of noplacetohide's contemporaries.
Released to the day ten years after its predecessor, Zukunft points to the future where Vergangenheit dealt with the past. The two albums form a perfect line in time and a conceptual whole discussing different ideas surrounding the human perception of time. Vergangenheit is the past enslaving the present, while Zukunft is the future maiming the present. Zukunft laughs at the naïveté in the futuristic. Zukunft hails the individualist and mocks the self-fulfilling fatalism of believing in the future. Zukunft is the Eric Blair Witch Project reality show featuring the haunting ghost of Adolf Hitler imprisoned by Arthur Koestler and the Ghostbusters. Zukunft greets the revolution and waves goodbye to the Empire's extreme negligence and apocalyptically arrogant optimism. Zukunft is the exploration of space. Zukunft is your property. Zukunft is weapons technology. Zukunft is your children. Zukunft is taking action. It's just a question of time.

Happy New Year
2003 was probably the best year for noplacetohide ever, and we are hoping for even more activity and brutal music in 2004! Our album WILL be out soon, and more gigs will follow.
The Entombed tour in late November was great, even though we drove 2600 km in 5 days. It was cool hanging out with Entombed, and we got to play Bergen and Trondheim, where we have never played before. The reception in those towns was phenomenal.
Read the links below for a review (Norwegian only) and Entombed's tour diary!
